The Porta dei Tre Santi was once one of the points of access to the town of Bertinoro (the others were the Porta San Francesco and the Porta San Domenico, the latter pulled down in the early 20th Century).
The tower above the gateway is build in an alternation of brickwork and ashlars.
The gateway takes its name from the presence in the vicinity of the “Badia Vecchia” (Old Abbey), which conserved the relics of the French Bishop Saints (Saints Pascasius, Magloire and Samson), brought by the Breton pilgrims from whom Bertinoro derives its name.
