1835 - 1907

The Church of San Donato di Polenta ows its national fame to Giosué Carducci who wrote the Ode alla Chiesa di Polenta (published for the first time in 1879), recalling the fact that Dante prayed in this church during his exile.

Bertinoro decided to show the poet his gratitude conferring upon him the honorary citizenship (in 1898) and dedicating to him a commemorative epigraph (in 1910) situated inside the Town Hall, in the sala del Popolo (Room of the People).

From 1919, usually in september, the Raduno Carducciano takes place, an annual meeting with a public reading of his famous poem .
