Useful Information
Points of interest
Bertinoro Cathedral
Dedicated to Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, the Cathedral was built at the end of the XVI century. It houses valuable testimonies, a painting by Francesco Longhi and a wooden crucifix from the German school of the XVI century.
Porta di San Francesco
Originally it was called Porta Franca because it was free from duties and taxes. From the 1600s, it took the name of Porta S. Francesco from the Franciscan convent, built in its vicinity, which later became an oil mill.
Bertinoro
City of Wine and Hospitality, among tourists and travellers it is known as the "Balcony of Romagna". The magnificent view of the sea and the Romagna plain is the background of many cycling routes - already famous or to be discovered - that pass through this medieval village full of history and tales. The vineyards that often cover its hills, tell of a very long wine tradition, witnessed since Roman times, which today is consolidated in the "Bertinoro" sub-area that, in particular, offers Sangiovese and Albana wines of excellent quality.
Lunch with the Azdore
The Azdore are an institution in Romagna, the mainstays of the traditional family and the undisputed queens of the kitchen and the house. Positive symbol of industriousness and creativity between stove and rolling pin, tireless providers of joys for the palate.
Church of Tipano
The Church of San Bartolomeo Apostolo is of Romanesque origin and dates back to the year 1000. It was part of a Benedictine monastery and around the XIV century passed to the Classensi of Ravenna: the CLS monogram (Classis) is still visible, engraved on the stoup inside the church.
Natural Park of the Savio River
Developed on a stretch of 6 kilometres along the river, which still preserves both its natural course and its flood plain, this place is one of the few natural environments remained intact in the territory of Cesena.
Cesena
The Malatesta city can be considered a capital of Romagna also for its central position in the Romagna area. The Lordship of the Malatesta family guaranteed this city a long period of splendour, with priceless cultural, architectural and artistic riches.
Malatesta Fortress
Cesena also owes to the Malatesta family its fortress, one of the most impressive in the Romagna region, which was also studied by Leonardo da Vinci. You can still visit the internal walkways of the walls, the terraces and the ancient prisons.
Masini Fountain
Created by Domenico di Montevecchio between 1586 and 1590 and designed by Francesco Masini, it is still today one of the symbols of Cesena. An example of Mannerist architecture-sculpture, it is perfectly preserved and appreciable primarily in the rich decorative part.
Malatesta Library
The Malatesta Library is the only example of a conventual humanistic library perfectly preserved in the building, in the furnishings and in the book endowment. This is why UNESCO has recognised its value, inserting it - first in Italy - into the Memory of the World Register.
