It celebrates a tradition which started in 1200 when the noble families of Bertinoro erected a column in th emain village square with a ring for each family. When the foreigner arrived and tied his horse to a ring, he was automatically invited as guest by the family that corresponded to the ring.

Every year, on the first Sunday of September, this ritual is re-enacted and represents the heart of the festival when the entire village together with official guests and visitors gather in the center of this magnificent medieval town.
